1960 era tire replacement 26 x 1 3/4

Uniroyal, I believe, are on an old schwinn cruiser I picked up for a coworker. the tires came out of the rims and have several long cracks - not good. They read 26 x 1 3/4" but I wonder if that's not like "your other left".
Are these tires going to cost more than the bike - and where might I find them?

Thanks, I've never got steered wrong on this forum.

I got mine from Harris Cyclery (1956 Schwinn Corvette). $20 but not Uniroyal.

Olds schwinn 26 inch tires are not the same as modern Mtb 26 inch tires.I found this out years ago when trying to fix up an old schwinn. My Favorite childhood bike was an old schwinn Camelback frame with fat 27 inch General Tires.( Brand Name)

You easily find old 590 ERTO 26" tires at a good bike shop. I have access to two wholesale vendors that still stock them, and I've seen them at K-Mart. Current MTB/cruiser tries are 559 ERTO.

Right, James.

You can get Schwinn sized tires from most good bike shops. You might have to pay about $2.00 more than you would at a big-box store for a common 26". So, expect to pay about $12.00 to $14.00 per tire. No big deal. The bike and the ride are worth it.

There are several different 26" sizes. See-
https://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html
Sounds like yours are 571MM rim size, aka 650C. Is there also an "S-7" on them?

They were when I was a kid, 50 years ago. What size do you think they used on Typhoons, Excelsiors etc.?

He needs 590's or 559's. He needs 571. (S7)

The link I provided above will get the OP the tires he needs to fit. What I was unsure about was whether he was looking for original tires for a restoration or just tires that fit so he can ride it.

I believe they are S-7 and may have seen that on the tire/rim. After much searching I found a classic bike store in Ohio that is shipping me 2 generic white walls for $34. I'm cleaning and adjusting the bike ivory/pink Fiesta for a young lady in my office.
