incredible stupid pump question-Blackburn mp-4

I dug this pump out today, and remembered why I never used it; I cannot, for the life of me figure out how it works. I can get it to pump, but it's supposed to have a reversible (presta/schrader) chuck. the problem is, I can't get it airtight on either type of valve,, and the schrader side does not seem to actually fit in the pump in a way that you can use it. It appears to be complete, but I got it with a bike a while ago,, so it may be missing a part or something. It's a long shot, but has anyone sucessfully used one? There is a rebiuld kit for the whole line of Blackburn MPs, and most of the parts seem to be there.
