Can I swap?

Quick question..... I hope.

Got my son a Giant MTX225 earlier this year - 3 chain ring (42,34,24) and a 7 speed rear ( 14-28), both Shimano. It has SRAM MRX twist shifters. These shifters do seem to be a pain once you get a little sweaty...hard to grab onto and twist.

Now, we just got my daughter a Trek 3700 WSD - It also has Shimano Front and rear derailleurs with a 48-38-28 front and a 13-34, 7 speed rear. The biggest difference is it has Shimano EF50, 7 speed shifters ....these are trigger type shifters as opposed to the twist grip.

...... and of course, now my son thinks he has to have the trigger type shifters. I cruised the net and see that the Shimano EF50 is pretty cheaply priced, but.........

Are they compatible? Can I simply replace the twist grip and brake levers with the EF50s? .. or would they not even come close to working.

Thanks for any help in advance.

No problem with using trigger shifters. IMO, the twist shifters are actually pretty nice. My wife and daughter have them on their bikes. I like them. Good luck on the swap. The only possible problem you might have is cable length. You won't know for sure until you do the swap.
