The Truvativ Powerspline is Truvativ's own proprietary bb that is removed and installed and worked on just like a square taper, but with 12 splines. It isn't that popular and there aren't any new crank sets made that would fit it. I would suggest upgrading to square taper, octalink, isis, or any of the outboard bbs because the Powerspline seems to be a new concept designed to make the square taper obsolete, but itself failed.

As Z415 said ,the Powerspline is a Truvativ Proprietary job. It primarily exists on middle end bikes so the bike shop can say "ooh, look, splined interface, it's stronger"

Which it is, if it didn't take Truvativ way too long to send tech bulletins to shops about how to keep the arms from falling off in normal use.

Switch Cranks and Bottom Bracket. You can get an FSA Gamma Drive Crank/BBset for about 110, it will be a little heavier, but significantly more reliable and stiffer. Better yet, go with a Shimano LX 2 piece unit, probably around 160. It's worth every penny, I used it to replace my Power spline setup when it went and it converted me into a believer in 2 piece systems.

Although, there's something to be said for all the older Octalink and Isis cranksets you can find on discount nowadays. I'm sure some hunting around online bike shops/ebay will turn up some favorable results.

I agree about the Octalink bbs and cranks but a lot of ISIS bb's have proven problematic also. I'd stick with square taper, Octalink or one of the Shimano external bearing bbs.

True, if you go with an ISIS look long and hard at it. The Truvativ's come to mind as reasonably reliable, I've seen some that were pretty beat up and still in good shape bearing wise.

i had the same problem when i got my specialized. it had truvativ isoforms on it and within a couple of months the crank arm had worked its way loose. i was several mile from home so i took it easy and rode anyway. but by the time i took the bike to the lbs i had destroyed the splines on the bb. so they gave me a new set of cranks that were spose to be the next step up, with a different bb.
