Straghtening wheel
 

Hi people !!!!!!!!
I am new one around. Recently I bought very cheap second hand road bike. I had crashed in a way that a wheel on the road bike got smashed. I just wonder is it possible to straighten it up and if so what is the best method ? I am in dilemma, cos wheel, with tube and tyre cost more then a bike.

but to be more helpful to the original poster, how bent is it? if it will still spin while in the fork, it can most likely be trued up. but if it is really out of whack, chances are you should start searching garage sales, craigs list, ebay etc. truing a wheel will only work when it isn't completely bent

It is bent like 10% in opposite directions on opposite sides.
I am so pissed, that I want have probably patience for that.

You should be able to re-use the tire and tube. Take it to your Local Bike Shop & they can either fix it or recommend a new wheel. If you get the cheapest available, it should be under $35.

If bent from a crash you simply cannot reliably get it straight with just a spoke wrench, let alone without experience. The rim is physically bent and only can be reasonably trued after it is carefully bent back. If that isn't done some spokes will be extremely tight and others will have almost no tension.

If the rim is twisted with an "S" bend - goes to the right and then left but does not go right again, you might as well not even try, unless you are willing to put up with a wheel that will always be both somewhat out of true and weak as well.

I'd guess if it goes left and right a lot that the wheel is toast.

It really depends on the damage to the rim. If the metal in the rim is crimped, cracked, or stretched, then the rim needs to be replaced. If the bends are more gradual curves then you probably can fix it, but you will most likely need to remove all of the spokes before re-shaping the rim.
