Long(er) armed v-brake?
I've got a Surly Karate Monkey running 29inch Schwalbe Big Apple tires w/Avid Single Digit v-brakes. I recently purchased the new Planet Bike 29inch fenders. Surly designed the KM's rear brake mounts very low on the seat stays, so the cable on my current rear v-brake sits about 1/8 of an inch above the top of the tire--virtually no clearance, and the rear fender won't fit.
I remember seeing taller (than standard) armed v-brakes (Shimano Deore?) a few months ago but can't seem to find them now. Most on-line sites don't list the height of the brake arms, so I'm having trouble narrowing it down. Anyone have any insights into where I can find some that would fit my bike? Are there v-brakes out there that have taller-than-standard arms? I know that running a rear disc brake would solve this problem--I'd like to avoid that if possible. Thanks in advance. |
The Tektro 857 AL Linear Pull Brake features long arms for fender clearance.
You probably won't find them on-line, but your LBS can get them from QBP. Part# BR7417 |
Thank you.

And they're cheap. Unfortunately, I don't know if "long-arm" is long enough. Paul brakes seem to have the right fit, but even they don't mention brake arm lenght. I don't know why that measurement isn't standard info.

You can go to tektro website they tell you how long they are
EDIT2: Ok from tektro website the 857 AL is 110mm http://www.tektro.com/02products/04su11.php You can browse other product http://www.tektro.com/02products/index.php The beach cruiser are even longer 120mm http://www.tektro.com/02products/05849al.php |
Thanks DanPT--that's what I'm looking for. I hope the 110 is long enough because those 120mm ones look cheapy--and are priced accordingly:)
