Handlebars too thick for healight mount

My Felt F55 came stock with 31.8mm thick handlebars and stem. The bars are bulged at the center and get narrower at the sides. I can't fit the clamp for my CatEye EL500 lamp on this handlebar because of the butted section. The narrower portion is covered by bartape (and that's where my hands go too) so it's not really an option to put it there...

Anyone else run into this issue? What to do?

Well, it's not an elegant solution, but, there is a gizzmo that was designed to allow more real estate for attaching accessories to your bars. I forget the name of it, but, it basically is a sort of 'T' that attaches by a band to your bars (the band most surely will accommodate your thick bars). You attach one or two accessories to the top of the T.

It's not very elegant, but it works.

You could also look for a bolt of the proper diameter and pitch, but longer than the one supplied with your headlight so that the clamp would still accommodate the additional thickness of your bars. That solution would depend upon whether a longer bolt would still sufficiently align with the "encased" nut on the opposite of the OEM clamp - sometimes it won't work.

Let us know what you work out.

I had a feeling there was a $3 solution for this...thanks

I thought about getting a longer bolt but in fact the clamp won't go around far enough for the embedded nut to align with the bolt properly without really stressing the plastic.

Actually what is the difference between the H-32 oversize bracket and the flextight? Is one better than the other?

Edit: Never mind I found a picture of it (CatEye doesn't provide one on their side )

Yeah, the newer EL530 lamp comes with the flex-tight bracket. Pretty ingenius bracket actually.
