Square taper BB source.
Well I figured out I have a 68x118, 118.5 square taper BB, but where can I find a sealed replacement one? Nobody has a 118.
And by the way, its an old 80's Stronglight crank. Is that ISO or JIS?

The tapers are similar but not identical. You can get a 118mm Shimano UN-53 BB from Sheldon Brown's shop for $25: https://sheldonbrown.com/harris/botto...s.html#shimano For $15 you can get the Nashbar square-taper BBs, which I have found to be of a good quality, but they only go up to 115mm

Try hard to get an ISO taper. And if you're going to use a JIS taper, you'd want a different bottom bracket spindle length, since JIS taper is slightly fatter and the ISO-tapered crankarm won't slide as far onto the JIS-tapered bottom bracket as it would onto an ISO-tapered bottom bracket. I don't know the difference in distance, but I suspect you'd want a 113 or 115mm bottom bracket axle if you're forced to go JIS.

In that thread I link to, it's suggested somewhere that if you change ISO->JIS, you should get about 3mm shorter JIS spindle.

Wow, that was fast, thanks a lot everyone. I don't mind loose ball BBs, but the spindle is bad, and I though it would be easier and cheaper just to get the whole BB. But I'll see if I can find the spindle.

After reading the Sheldon Brown stuff (man the guy is good), I think I'm going to try the Nashbar 115. Mines a 118, but one of the arms already bottoms out if I go anything past about 35 ft-lbs torque on the spindle bolt. Since Stronglight is ISO, hopefully it won't bottom out on the Nashbar JIS BB which is fatter than the ISO.
What do you think?

I'm pretty sure the Shimano UN72 or 73 I put in my Cannondale (RSX triple) was a 68/118. I got it at the LBS, but also found it at Biketoolsetc and a couple of other places.

So, what you want to do depends on how nice your crank is and how well you want to treat it. If it's old and kinda crappy but workable, then you might just get the Nashbar 115mm (JIS) square-taper BB. It's cheap and I've had good success with Nashbar BB's.
I've got a 115mm Campy (Veloce) BB. Sealed-cartridge. Used, but the bearings turn pretty smoothly - there's a bit of grit but not bad at all, it's got thousands of miles left in it. I can send it to you if you want - will throw your chainline 1.5mm inward compared to a 118mm ISO BB.

better yet. I searched and didn't find anything, but I was looking in the "cranks and bottom brackets" category of road bike parts, and you found it in the "vintage parts" category.

The stronglight is what you need but it's pricey (very). The edco seems like you can fine-tune the chainline. Doesn't specifiy if its ISO but it should be (just ask).
