broken Front Derailleur campy record

Today on my ride while droping to the small chainring I felt a hard thump. I looked down thinking I had the chain derail and was suprised to see everything OK. Well that was until I needed to go back to the small chainring again and it wouldn't shift. As you can see by the picture the derailleur is broke. How is campy's warrenty and can I replace just the broken part? There is a screw on the lower part but it looks like a rivit on the top. It is an 07 compact record front derailleur.

Campy has a three year warranty on their components. See if they will honor it.

Look for a receipt. This has become a bit of an issue at campy lately. OR talk to the shop where you bought it and they can issue one.

This should probably be a warranty. It's hard to say for sure without all the facts but it it highly likely. Worst case senario, you can by a new cage. The part number is FD-RE001 for 2003-2006 and FD-RE015 for 2007 (unless it's a CT der then I'd have to check).

It is a CT derailleur. The OP stated that in his last line. Since it's an '07 I also assume it's a QS format.

This seems like it should be covered. Campagnolo will probably just replace the cage (FD-RE115).

I had severe scoring on the resin of my carbon fiber cage on my 2008 Campy Record front derailleur from chain shifts and had it replaced once, but it happened again soon afterward. Fearing that I could have a similar problem of an enventual failure I replaced the carbon cage to an aluminum cage that comes with Chorus. I think that using carbon fiber for any use that involves frictional contact is a big mistake. Carbon fiber resin simply is not strong and cannot withstand this type of use. I wouldn't be surprised if Campy changes the Record cage material back to aluminum or titanium in 2009.

When will the carbon fiber-can-do-no-wrong madness end? (I know alot of bikers who are going back to aluminum wheels after having failures with their carbon fiber wheelsets.)

I don't know if it's fair to say that CF shouldn't be used on a front derailleur because of the problems that you've experienced.. I've had no such scoring or problems of any kind on my derailleur.
The job of the front derailleur is to gently push the chain off a chainring. It doesn't take much force at all. Once the chain drops the chain should be within the width of the cage, minus certain combinations with the cogs in the back.
The OP probably didn't have something adjusted correctly or who knows. I highly doubt that this is a widespread issue.

Are you saying the resin inset was warn or the cage itself? Seems that the resin insert is supposed to wear and is replaceable. Mine has over 4000 miles on it and is still in pretty good shape.
