Do I have the correct tube?
The tires on my Raleigh Passage 4.5 are labeled "700 x 40c (28 x 1-5/8)."
I was at my LBS - the place where I bought the bike. I told them I wanted to buy a replacement tube to keep with me for flats. The one they sold me is labeled "700 x 28-35c (27 x 1-1/8, 1-1/4)." I asked them more than once if that is the correct tube, and they assured me it is.
Is it?

Not a dumb question. It should be fine. I don't know if anyone makes a 700c x 40 tube as such, but a 35 or 38 will stretch to fit with no problems.

As Indolent said, shouldnt be a problem. 700x40 tubes are pretty common. We have a Bontrager branded tube in 35-44c, both schraeder and presta. They were probably out of the nominal size and gave you what they had on hand.
