I want to mount a tube with a presta valve in a schraeder rim. Will that cause a problem? 17" Alex Birdy rim.

Yes, the tube will pop because the hole in the rim is too large. However, there are adaptors you can buy that will reduce the hole diameter to fit a presta.

Nope, no problem. I've got two wheelsets running this way. I guess it would be bad with a high-pressure road tire, but it's fine for me on MTB rims with slicks at 60psi. No problems in 10+ years of service.

The only adapters that I've seen require presta threaded stems,
so no Michelin tubes.

post #7 from that link is about the same thing I was going to say. The rubber grommets seems to work better for not tearing up the tube near the aluminum adapters. Also, the aluminum adapter I've used had to be filed down on the lip so they seat in a narrow rim correctly.
