26 handlebar clamp in a 25.4 stem

Hi there, I have a stem with a 25.4mm clamp. I am wondering if I can get away with putting a 26mm handlebar in it. It is a fairly good stem and would prefer to not buy a new one.

If you have recommendations on where I can find 25.4 bars that would help too! I've only found one, and it was too wide.

thanks in advance!

The 26.0 would be a Cinelli, non? It won't fit in your 25.4 stem. If you DO jam it in there, it will crush the bar or you won't be able to get the stem bolt back in because it will be at a funky angle.

Look at the DEDA 215 bars. The are exactly the same as the Newton bars many pros ride only in a 25.4 size. They have 3 different bends (Shallow drop, Deep drop and anatomic) so you can choose which one you like best.

Cinelli's proprietary size was 26.4 mm. Almost all other makes of high-line road bars were 26.0 mm or 25.8.

If you DO jam it in there, it will crush the bar or you won't be able to get the stem bolt back in because it will be at a funky angle.
Right. Don't do it.

Are these 25.4 or 25.8? A 25.8 is normally used in a 26.0 stem.

Is this a traditional quill stem or a new modern pop-top stem (removable face plate)?

If it's a pop-top, I've had no problems running 26 in 25.4. The clamping mechanism doesn't rely on bending like the quill system, you have a lot more leeway.

Both Nitto (https://www.speedgoat.com/product.asp...t=20&brand=169) and On-One (https://www.speedgoat.com/product.asp...=20&brand=1109) make road bars that fit 25.4 clamps. Those On-One Midge bars are super comfortable.
