Switching drop bars

I have two bikes, a 10 speed and a single gear. I want to switch the drop handle bars on these bikes, putting my nicer Ritchey bars on my 10 speed (to make it a bit lighter). I want to switch these bars with the brake handles intact, I've heard this might make my job more complicated, not sure why. I am a novice but also a quick learner. Think I can pull of this job on my own, or am I shop bound? Any tips for a poor musician bike enthusiast?

Discretion is the better part of something or other...

Are the bars the same diameter?

Do the bikes both use the same type of brakes?

Also, what type of stems do the bikes have. Unless they are both have removable face plates you are going to have to unwrap the bars and remove at least one brake lever from each.
