puncture and its consequences
What happens if you have a puncture but is not in a position to repair it?
Riding on the bike is bad because it will damage the wheel or rim. What about dragging it? i.e pushing it while walking for 10km say? How much damage is done when doing that? I have a new entry level road bike by the way. |
Well, you take about 120-220 lb off the total weight of the bike if you walk it, and the 15-25 lb the bike weighs is probably not going to hurt much if the wheel is still rolling. If the tire is dragging because the wheel won't move, I'd carry the bike on my shoulder.
As for me, I always carry a spare tube, a patch kit, a pump, and a cell phone in case the other three don't work out. |
Pushing the bike should not damage the rims because of course there is little weight on the wheels. On an MTB a triangle shaped pad allows carrying the bike over a rough trail where its hard to push.
But a CO2 gun and cannisters, spare roadbike tube, and patch kit weigh very little. I would be afraid to roadbike without them, well sometimes I don't take the tube, but always the spoons, patch kit and CO2. A pump? Sorry, no! Too much work... |
What does a CO2 gun do?

Fills the tire for people those types whos arms are too spindly to push a proper pump.
:D What is done with spent C02 cartridges? Seems like a waste. Can you refill them? |
