Seatpost binder bolt help

Has anyone ever cut down a quick release skewer to use as a seatpost binder bolt? I was wondering if the bolt was too thin.

They don't make Old school Shimano seatpost binders anymore. I'm looking put it on a retro MTB project. So, the question remains: can I cut down and rethread a QR skewer and use as a seatpost binder QR?

I've got a no-name qr seatpost binder that came stock on my daughter's Trek 730 Hybrid from the late '90's. It's an external cam type, not the Shimano/Campy internal cam, but it does work. However, the diameter of both the adjustable nut and the cam end are smaller than hub qr's so a hub qr might not fit.

I replace it with a regular binder bolt as soon as I realized that no one really adjusts their seat post on the fly and it was an open invitation to having the saddle and post stolen. If you want it PM me.
