Tire busted, brakes messed n sum other things :(

Hi,

This is the story, I was biking back from a friends house on my crappy ass bike (so if I get mugged I wouldn’t care bout that bike) lost control on a turn n I fell down with it :(. The min I get up I look at the damages, I look at the front wheel and c that from the axel its bend roughly 45 degrease to the left, and the most of the spokes are bent as well. I walk over 2 my house which was right in front of me when I crashed :( open the garage n took apart the whole wheel. Took my about 4 hours to straighten the wheel with Flintstones like equipment. Then the next day it took me about another four hours to straighten the spokes and put everything together. I adjusted the nipples so the tire would be somewhat straight but it still wobbles I say about 6 mm to the left. I try attaching the brakes, and then I realizes those are messed as well, when I press the brakes they do brake fine, but they don’t stop braking even when I let go I took them apart completely thinking the springs broke, to my surprise they where fine :|. I had no clue how to fix them so I decided to wrap things up hoping it will take me about 1 hour to fix it the next day, then I decide to check the spokes to c if they are taught or not, and out of curiosity I checked the back wheel also, the spokes on the back wheel where so damn loose its not even funny, I can move them up, down side to side ect. So I got rele pissed n just left everything, as is cuz I got tired. Is it worth it to fix EVRYTHING or should I just get new tires? and thank god i didnt take my new giant NRS3, if i would of broke that i woudl honestly kill my self :(. If you no how to fix ne of that plzz help me :D

thnx!

Possibly Cell phone or PDA wireless? Or maybe Spongebobese. Steve
To BoB: sounds like you should look for a yardsale replacement bike. Be
less time costly than further repairs. Steve

:D sorry about the short forms...im on msn to many times and used to talking short, any who i tightened the back even though i knew it would pretzel it even more...but at least it will be safe. and another thing, wen i go no handed the bike sharply turns to the right without me doing so, im ganna probably go to a mechanic tomorrow or so and ask the prices, dont wanna bust my pockets :D

What kind of brakes do you have? Side-pull, cantilever, or v? We need to know what kind of bike you have and what kind of components it has before we can give you specific repair advice. Got any pics?

SpOnGeBoB 07-24-03 10:18 AM

the bike that was totaled is a crappy millenium bike which i just use to bike around to friends houses, the brakes are v-brakes. and no i dont got a digital camera so i dont have any pics at the moment

Get new wheel, get new brakes... go cheap and it will cost u 50-60 bucks. Im not a mechanic but i can tell you the repair job could be something liek 25 to fix wheel, and 25 for tuneup. But if you buy the brakes they usually set them up for free.

SpOnGeBoB 07-25-03 12:42 PM

ouhhhh ok, i am first going to look around at a garage sale for some new wheels :D because im cheap :D

Did you try the tension adjustment screws on the brakes? That will probably fix your problem. I think it's unlikely that you damaged the springs, unless you bent one of the calipers, in which case you should get new brakes. I don't know of anyone that sells the springs separate because there's no real standard for them.

And don't buy cheap wheels at a garage sale, unless you like fixing them all the time:D

lol, i dont use that bike very often, its just a "get around bike instead of walking" yea i tried adjusting the little screws, it still didnt do anything, the brakes would brake fine but then they wouldnt go back :(
