Quick question. You guessed the regard of it. Was wondering if such a wheelbuild requires two separate spoke lengths or just one? If doing a 32h hub/rim wheelbuild, how sturdy of a wheel does this produce? Finally, in question to actually building such a wheel, is there any special trick in regards to lacing/tensioning/rounding?
I've built both 32h radial and 3x. I've also built up a 36h 3x (no difference to those who know). Just was curious as to whether anyone here has done this and has any insight or suggestions. Both are appreciated.

Go to DT Swiss's site and use their spoke calculator to determine the spoke lengths you need. Just plug in the rim, hub, and number of spokes you will use and you'll get an exact spoke calculation. When I did the rear on my MTB I needed to different sizes for the drive and non-drive side.
As far as general info...you guessed it. Sheldon Brown's site has some great info on lacing and truing wheels.

Yeah, this is the first time Sheldon didn't point me towards any specifics, otherwise his wheelbuilding guide is bar none. Thanks for the info though.

I only have experience with 3l3t, but I can give it a shot. You only need one spoke length. Order the spokes as if you were building a 2x wheel and you should be fine. Essentially, you are building a 2x wheel with half of the spokes offset by a hole.

How heavy are you? Either 32H or 36H with a good 3X lacing will give you a very strong wheel. 2X or radial are weaker wheels unless the hub and rim were designed specifically for the radial lacing. Spokes work together and with a 3X they are further out on the lever.
