Going compaxt

Hi:
I'm having my mid 80's J.P. Weigle retrofitted with S and S couplers so that I can use it as a travel bike.Though I thought about keeping it classic, I need a wider range of gears these days and so I'm considering a compact crankset (50 x 34). However, my old frame has a braze-on fitting for the FD, which will limit how close I can get the cage to the big ring. Has anyone tried such a set-up. Are there shfiting problems or can it be made to work?

Get an FSA C-16 front dérailleur and it will fit just fine. It's designed to sit a little lower on the braze-on.
