Vintage Dia-Compe Versa brake mount
I'm reviving a vintage rigid MTB and found some cool looking canti brakes today. They are Dia-Compe Versa C5. Research shows they are likely early-mid 90's vintage, which tracks with sellers story.
The problem is that the side with the spring that mounts to the post seems to be made for a different type of post. Instead of the spring extending extending past the flat surface, the post on the brake arm that holds the pivot assembly together, has a hex/nut shaped protrusion (image 12). I have disassembled the brake, and that post with the protrusion is all one piece. It can not reverse, it does not come apart, etc. It is one piece. I found nothing on Sheldon, Park, Cambria, Lick, Thirdhand, Biketools etc, Avid, Shimano and a few others.
Has anyone seen this type of mounting style before? I could only guess it might be missing a spring adjustment part, need a brake booster or be some suspension type boss I have not seen.
I was thinking that I could grind/sand down the extrusion and build up the mounting bolt head side with washers. I'd rather not modify them though.
A Classic/Vintage or MTB question?
Thanks for any help.
