Would anyone care to offer up some advise as to which cone wrench sizes I should keep on hand? I normally find that I use just the 13mm and 15mm for most of my hub repair work on the bikes I own. I keep two of each and one needs replaced. Thought I would stop by the LBS on the way home and pick up a replacement. However, I have a decent place to work (tools, stands, etc) at my place and I offer it up for anyone to use if they drop by. Any other sizes that come to mind? Do you use them for anything else (i.e..I think it's the 13's that I use on brakes) I'd be interested in what specialty tools you find are major helpful to have on hand.

For cone wrenches, I bought this Park Tool set: https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=4212

Hasn't let me down yet. The only other place I have used come wrenches is on brakes.

I find myself needing a 17 on occasion, a 16 too but not as often.

I think I have both sizes ( I do have two different sizes), but they have been in my toolbox in the garage for ages. I have not used it since I swapped out my SpeedPlay X-2's to my older bike. It's just not a tool that I need to keep at my finger tips these days.

Your results may vary.

I have had to use almost all of my sizes (10 - 18, I think). Depends on whether you work on weird old bikes or new ones.

Check out Hozan cone wrenches. I prefer them to the Park Tool versions.

I'd just buy them as you need them. You may have an unused size sitting around for ages.
I can get the Park DCW series (double ended) cone wrenches for $5 at my local "outdoor" store.
Seems like a good price for the semi-frequent user.

If you have any Campy hubs from the 80s (maybe other eras too), you'll need 14s.

You will eventually need a 14 or maybe two 14's. My 9-speed era Dura Ace rear hub requires two 14 mm cone wrenchs, one for the cone and one for the locknut.

Get the Park black "shop" wrenches or Campy's double end wrenches. Avoid the chrome plated Parks or their double end wrenches.

I like the individual wrenches in the shop but I carry the double ended wrenches on the road. It gives me more options with less weight.

Right, they are ok for occasional or emergency use but I found them too fragile and imprecise for routine shop work.
