Replace crankarm on xd600?

Somehow I managed to completely strip the threads where the pedal is inserted into the right crankarm on my new bike, which uses a sugino xd600 triple.

Can I buy the arm anywhere, or do I need to replace the whole crankset?

Thanks,
pete

You could install a helicoil if you want to save the crank arm. If not then check with your LBS on ordering the replacement arm.

Maybe the LBS could retap a larger thread and put in a bigger bolt.

I have a new sugino left hand crank arm. I bought a new bike from the other end of the country and whenh I got it home, within a hundred miles, the left crank became loose. I emailed sugino to ask how it should be fitted to prevent this and they sent me a brand new crank arm fro Japan. It came through the post five days later. great service. I think the old one is OK too. I just torqued it up and it has stayed put. Kozo Sugino was concerned that the old one might be dameged by having come loose.

If your bike shop can't help, go to the website and enquire about a new one. I bet they will do their best to help you.

My LBS does have a crank-arm that will fit, though it's not a sugino. I'll install the new one, and also send mail to sugino.

Thanks,
pete

Turns out the crankarm they had was a used suntour xc pro, right hand side, and they wanted $40. I paid it, because I didn't want to drive cross town to the other bike shop, but I think they are ripping me off. I know suntour is nice, but I could buy an entire new XD600 for $75 from jenson.

Anyone know what such a thing should cost?

pete

$40 for one crankarm is crap. But they have you by the short hairs, don't they? Where else are you going to get one crankarm? I recently paid $10 for a used axle setup at my LBS, same deal.
