Quieting a noisy free-hub?

I recently purchased a Campy Eurus wheelset. They are great wheels but the free-hub is obnoxiously noisy. Is there a way to reduce the noise from the hub? ...short of wearing ear-plugs :)

Thanks in advance for your help...........

Know how you feek Bikesick - I have a wheelset for my road bike that was built with Hope Technology hubs. That it the loudest freewheel I have ever heard. People turn to see what all the row is about!

Cheers,

Ed

I have Hope hubs on my tourer, Ed, and after 2000 miles or so it is starting to quieten down.

I dont think there is any way you can make it quieter, its how they are built.

Noisey freehub? Keep pedaling...........

A loud free hub is a quality freehub. Loud clicks means it is tight.

I disagree ... my other wheels have Dura-Ace hubs and are nice and quiet. That's why I'm spoiled!! :)

Really??? no cure??? No filing the pawl carrier or something to soften the hammering clickage??? ...extra grease won't help? ...nothing?? :(

Sounds like I'm riding a big fishing reel, the clicker is on, and it's set to fightin' drag!!!! :p

haha.. doesnt sound like it mate :) keep reelin' them in :D

Coast really fast going down hill!! Wear that baby in. All that noise you hear is extra friction. You should spin a wheel with a nice quiet Shimano free hub and see how long it takes to stop. I'll bet your noisy one stops sooner.....ooops..didnt mean to disapoint you.

Some hubs are noisier then others, look at Chris King hubs they are considered one of the best out their but they are NOISY!!! Louder noise alot of times is caused by more pawls/engagement points in the hub which will make the wheel react faster when you pedal.

They normaly will quite a bit after being worn in, but if they stop making noise get worried :)
