Hole in Fork Crown

I have a CroMo threaded fork, that for some reason Giant opted not to drill the hole in the fork crown all the way through. The hole goes through the front face, but not all the way through the fork, so I have been able to attach a fender by various acts of mechanical contortion. But now I am wanting to attach a Nitto Front Rack. So the question, is there any reason why I can't just take a drill and continue the hole through the rear face? And if this isn't a problem is there anything I can do to prevent it from destroying my powder coat finish, or is this not an issue? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tad

Can you thread the front hole?

Not an issue, that would be exactly what they would do during production of the fork. Just use a lot of cutting oil! And get touch up paint if you're concerned about the finish.

Is it actually not drilled or is it just paint.

Yes it is threaded, I think once upon a time there was a cable hanger there.

It is not drilled.

And thanks everyone for your replies.

Fasten the rack with a bolt, that's what.

My bad; I was reading this at work, got interrupted and assumed he wanted to mount a front brake.
