Campagnolo 8 Speed Thumb Shifter Does Not Return

Any idea why my right thumb shifter does not return to the normal position when I am downshifting? I have to push it back up to get the last 1 or 2 gears.

Spring is broke. Check out Brandford Bike. https://www.branfordbike.com/cgi-bin/...R_ID=359360869 I can't remember whether you can buy just the spring or the entire assembly. Call and ask about it. Good luck and remember, Campy can be rebuilt.

It's probably the spring, but check the rubber hood - make sure it's not interfering with the thumb lever.

It's funny that this would be an issue since the bike wasn't ridden enough to show any wear whatsoever on the brake pad surface of the rims. In any event, last night I removed the right shifter and removed the black plastic cap to reveal the bolt that holds the thumb plate assembly and G-springs. All springs were intact and not broken. I greased up inside, put it back together and now it works fine. It took three attempts of disassembly before it worked flawlessly. Wish I knew what it was. It almost seemed like I needed another washer under the bolt head because it was just touching the thumb plate assembly but apparently this was not the case. According to the disassembly views I had the correct amount of washers everywhere. Oh well, I will test the unit today and report back.

Congratulations, the problem could have been the lubricant. On old bikes that haven't been used, the grease tends to solidify and get sticky. Maybe cleaning it out was all it took. Good luck
