Carbon drop bars + Bar end shifters

I'm curious if bar end shifters (dura ace 9sp) are safe to use with carbon bars. I haven't seen anything warning against it, but I haven't seen any other type of component interface with a cf part in this way. I'm concerned about there being no aluminum part to clamp outside on the cf to prevent it from expanding indefinitely(like carbon steerers + compression top caps + al stems on top).

I would contact the manufacturer of the bars. Easton, for example, says their EC70 carbon fiber flat mountain bike handlebar is compatible with bar ends (not the same kind of bar ends you're talking about, of course), but their lighter weight EC90 carbon fiber flat mtb handlebar is not. I doubt there are many who put bar end shifters on carbon fiber drop style handlebars, so it's probably not something the manufacurers have in mind when they design the bars. Again, I'd contact the mfr. and see what they have to say about it-

I agree with well biked that you should contact the manufacturer. I also agree that carbon drop bars and bar-end shifter probably aren't on the designer's radar at the same time.

I have the same concerns that carbon bars aren't intended to take the bar-end shifters internal expander's stress. "Bar ends" for MTB's put exactly the opposite stress on bars, i.e. they compress the hoop.

I would expect them to be fine, since the shifter does not bear much weight. Just don't tighten the expander bolt too much.
