Threadless Headset

I bought a frame and fork off eBay and was wondering if I could get some help putting the threadless headset together. I know part #1 in the pic are the spacers. I know what part #2 is. My problem is part #3. Where does it go in relation to part #1 and #2? Is it on in the right direction or does it get flipped 180 degrees? Here is the link and I hope it works: https://s204.photobucket.com/albums/b...nt=headset.jpg

oh the crown race? is that the crown race or the crown race is already there? I cant notice it in the picture.

U know what? I think u have the thing backwards. The one in the bottom of the fork is not the crown race. #3 is the crown race. The crown race is one piece, I believe u put the one that has a cut in there because it was the easy way to set it, right?

The crown race must fit super tight, barely at the bottom of the fork. Go to home depot and buy a piece of plastic tubing or steel a little bit wider than 1/8" and hammer the crown race in place using the tubing. If u are afraid go to the lbs, they should do it for free thats a 30 secs job. As makes sense the crown race must face up, the curb part must be facing up, is there where u sit the bearings.

Put the bearings in place (bottom) put the fork in the frame, then do the upper part... bearing then the ring thing that has a cut (the one u have in the bottom of the fork right now), then the other parts. and u are all set.

Looks like the fork it is all carbon. I would use an expander/compresson with it.

have fun.

The one at the bottom is the way the fork came. I believe the bike was a new bike that was parted out on eBay by a bike shop. It is a Specialized Allez Pro if that helps anyone. The guy who I bout it off of took the fork off for shipping purposes.

Well So far i can see u have the races switched. Even if u think a little bit on it, all the weight of the bike is over the crown race. why the crown race should have a cut then? that it will destroy the bearings and the frame, the crown race must be in 1 solid piece and not be lose, not play at all. In a matter of fact if u use the bike like that, the fork will get loose each 5 minutes, there is no way to tight it at all. The other symptom is that u'll see too much space between the frame and the fork crown. I'm telling you whats wrong thats all

Have fun

I seem to recall some manufacturers make crown split races for ease of installation/removal. If this is the case then part 3 will also be split, in which case you have it upside down. Then the angled face should mate with the angled face of the bearing.

FSA and others make split crown races that can be pushed on with just finger pressure. They only work with cartridge bearings since the bearing races are part of the cartridges.

Is the headset original to the bike? If so it's odd that you would have 2 crown races. Part 3 might be the compression ring, then. But my guess is this headset was bought separately and you just need to remove the crown race that's on the fork and replace it with #3.

edit: rereading post 3 I'm gonna say part 3 is the compression ring. Goes above the top bearing.
