Dura ace cogs in 105 group?
 

Any problem with running a Dura Ace cogset in 105 group?

Some older D/A cogsets may have different spacing, but most don't. Old uniglide cogs won't fit on hyperglide bodies without some grinding. Also, D/A cogs are mostly aluminum (maybe the newer ones are titanium, though), and that is a soft metal. These cogs wear quickly. If you are looking at used D/A cogs, check them very closely!

As D*Alex says, be careful. If you notice a lot of cassette related stuff says something like "works with all Shimano except Dura-Ace or older Dura-Ace. If you are looking for inexpensive cassettes check nashbar.com. The have HG70 (105) 9-speed cassettes on sale for $32.95. I think Ultegras are just over $40. I see people offering the same cassettes USED for more on Ebay. I stick with HG70 (105) because you can pull them apart and play with them. Even the ones that appear to be riveted together are actually assembled with tiny 1.5 mm allen head screws that come right out. I like being able to put together exactly the gearing I want since D*Alex won't let me put a triple crank on my Bianchi. :D

I'm looking at a new Dura Ace cogset (strictly from a weight savings view) so my main concern is that as long as I get a 9 spd and it is HG like my 105 is then I won't have any problems. Correct?

I want to do it now while my drivetrain is new and not broken in plus that will leave me a good 105 backup as well.

It should work, save you about 6 oz, and will wear out in about 2 months (if you ride heavily).

You got 105 9s and want Dura Ace 9s cassette - Will they work? Of course.

I even have with Record 9s no problem. *


*Not Record hub but a Shimano compatible hub with Dura Ace cassette on a Record 9s bike.
