Deore RD with 105 Brifter ?
I built up a Surly CrossCheck with downtube shifters ... and I don't like them. It seems more of a pain to shift and I find myself shifting less. I bought some 105 9 speed brifters off ebay (haven't received them yet).
Here's my current drive train (all in fine working order) :
9 speed cassette 12-32
9 speed chain
Compact crank 50/34
105 FD
Deore RD
dura ace downtube shifters
I chose the Deore RD because I'm using a cassette with a 32 tooth big cog and I wanted to make sure I had plenty of capacity with the RD.
My question is .... will the Deore RD play nice with the 105 9 speed brifters ? I think I'm o.k. but not sure.

My Rocky Mountain Sherpa came with the exact same setup (well almost, it has the same 9 speed 105 brifters but with a Deore LX RD) straight from the manufacturer. Since the pull ratio is standard, any Shimano (road or mountain) RD made for indexing works with any Shimano index shifter, except for some older Dura Ace stuff (8 spd or less DA groups, if I remember correctly). Your setup will work flawlessly.
