Clamp on downtube shifter bosses

If I want to use downtube shifters. I want 9 indexed speeds. No bosses on the bike.

Right now, I have clamp on Shimano Light Action friction shifters.

Does anyone make a clamp on shifter boss? Or an indexed 9 speed, clamp-on shifter?

Will the Light Action levers unscrew from the clamp? If they do, they should leave the bosses that the indexed levers can screw onto.

I've made this work, albeit with 20 year-old 6-speed 105 shifters on a Light Action clamp, but the design is mostly unchanged - it should still work. Unscrew the Light Action shifters. There will be bosses underneath them. Be careful not to lose them, as they will fall out of the band and roll away if you aren't careful! Anyway, simply install the new shifters onto the bosses. Be aware that they do not match up nicely to the mounts on the band. It'll look a little fugly. It's also possible that it could affect shift quality. Getting my rig to index right was pretty tough, and it was always a little finicky. The shifters seemed to be mounted securely enough, so it could easily have been other factors, but consider yourself warned. I think it'll work just fine, but you're going to have to try it to find out. Good luck!

I don't want finicky. I want good, reliable, and easy. So I'm getting the impression that I should either go with barcons or have a local framebuilder braze on some bosses for me.

I never heard of Light Action friction shifters. Are you sure they're not Light Action index shifters switched to friction mode? If so, your 9 speed shifters will go right on the bosses on the mounting band.
