loose ball bearings (bottom bracket)

hey, i have a bmx, it currently has unsealed 3 peice cranks, with looseball bearings. i took it apart yesterday and put new bearings in, and to day it was loose so i made it tight again, so i went out for a ride for a couple hours within the first 15 minutes the nut was loose(holding the other washer and the nut holding the bearing in place. the nut was rubbing right up against the crank arm. why does it keep coming loose, and when i took it apart today, the bearings completely fell apart. so tomorow im going to the store to get new bearings (2$ each), so please to me how to keep the spindle from coming loose and to install the bearings properly.

Did you forget to install and/or tighten the lockring?

Lockrings work when they are tightened against the cup. You tightened yours against the frame.

???

Lockrings tighten against the frame (BB shell) and lock the cup in place.

Get some threadlocker like loctite. Getting new bearings at the LBS sounds like a good idea (unless they're $2 each.. that sound ridiculous) anyway, and while you're there they can show you how to properly set it up. Make sure to apply the loctite first. It could be you're doing something incorrectly.

First off, find a new place to purchase bearings. Nashbar sells bags of 100 for $3. https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...%2FRear%20Hubs

There is no reason the lockring should come loose unless it's stripped or the threaded cup is stripped (assuming you are properly tightening it). Only other thing may be if the bottom bracket shell on your frame is chewed up on the outside faced surface thus not allowing the lockring to tighten down properly. The surface should be smooth - get the frame faced if it's not. No reason for loctite - millions of bikes on the road without.
