Opinions on Sette/Nashbar headset press?

I shall keep this short and sweet. Thinking about adding a headset press and cup removers to my collection of tools, and would like some opinions on the Sette/Nashbar stuff. Ideally, they would work just like Park Tool's version at less than half the cost!

Thanks!

I think the DIY stuff looks pretty straightforeward to build...Otherwise I would get the Park...save your bill of sale and chances are they will honor the warranty better.

Which DIY kit are you referring to? I've found a couple and was thinking of making one (can't remember the site). Any one else have an opinion on this?

There are a few locals that have DIY presses. They've had good results.

As long as you're careful and know what you're doing, it saves a bundle over a Park or other brand press.

Hell, a shop can screw up an installation with a $200 press just as easily as with a $10 DIY press if they're not paying attention...

I've been pretty happy with my DIY press. Rather than describe it, a Google search will turn up several versions.

I've been using this $5 DIY press for the last 15 years.......works with all standard headsets, including King.

The Nashbar Headset press(around 70. or 80.$$) is pretty good ...works fine at a fraction of (other"s) price.. True..Nashabar merchandise is a literal crapshoot when it comes to quality...you save money, but it might be junk..even Nashbar acknowledges this... but the headset press is good stuff..go for it...it works and it will last..pro quality. Later

I've been watching this thread just to see how long it would take before you posted that pic.

+1 on that "press," that's exactly what I use, too. It works great. I do like my genuine Park headset cup remover, though.

I have a Nashbar press that I have had for years. It has worked with no problems. If I had to do it again, I would do the DIY version Roadfix showed above.

I know, I must have posted that picture like a thousand times here. I also use the Park headset cup remover.

A DIY press will basically do the same thing an expensive press does but only with a bit more effort. As for a cup removal tool, I also use a park. I feel that this is one tool you can't skimp on.

Hey! That's MY Press. I also use a piece of PVC for removal. I made four cuts lengthwise up the pipe and spread it out to catch the edge of the cup.

...But the DIY press doesn't look nearly as COOL as the real thing!

Bob

P.S. The Nashbar hs press works fine. I've had one for years.

I bought a Nashbar headset press and the threads where one of the handles screw in were messed up. I exchanged it and the new one works fine.

This is where Nashbar really shines; they stand behind their products and they will take anything back.
