Back to Basics
:(
Hi Trying to set up front deraiuller - shimano acera-x - 3 section chainwheel. The two adjust screws are not doing anything when adjusted - I see no movement whatsoever from the cage - so Back to Basics - a silly question to all you erudite persons, I know. But to me quite important at this moment Does top = high = little front chainwheel in relation to the cage or Does top = low = large front chainwheel in relation to the cage or Does top = high = large front chainwheel in relation to the cage and when you attach the cable to the front derailluer should the chain be on the small, middle or large chainwheel And finally is GEAR 1 the small or large chainwheel and is that known as low or high gear. regards  |
Gear 1 = low gear
On the front, it's the small ring. On the rear, it's the large ring. When adjusting the limit screws, you really don't see much in the way of movement, but you'll notice it the next time you run the shifters through their paces. You shouldn't really need to do a whole lot of adjusting via the screws, most adjusting should be done via the barrel adjusters. The inner/outer limit screws adjust the inner/outer travel limits of the derailleur, respectively. |
Have you checked out the Park Tool website? It has a very good set of step-by-step directions for setting up a front derailleur. Don't cut any corners. Start at the very beginning with the shift cable completely disconnected and follow the directions in order - that's important.
