New l/h Tiagra shifter noise

Hi, Anyone want to hazard a guess why I have a quiet rattle on rough roads coming from a new Tiagra shifter / brake lever only on the left hand. Not concerning, just annoying really.

Guess: your brake lever rattles because there is not enough tension in the brake cable. You could try to make the brakes a bit tighter. Also, a piece of tape on top of the lever can dampen things a bit.

Guess: the small shifting lever and the big shifting/brake lever are rattling against one another. If I am not mistaking, that might be solved by putting some rubber around the small lever, which serves as a cushion.

However, the Shimano rattle is hard to cure entirely.

no, I am very sur about this, I had it happen with my 105s. There is a little cap on the top of the shifter that displays the name, "tiagra" (or in my case, "105") this little cap often comes not all the way tightened down, and it will eventually fall off. There are two pieces of plastic, and a metal screw. the screw goes through the bottom piece, but not the top piece. if you pull on the top piece enough, it will pop off, exposing the screw. tighten down the screw really tight, and then use some glue to glue down the outer plastic piece. if you will look at my pic, you will see what I mean.

Good suggestion. I forgot that one. Be warned, though: the screw is easily lost and the cap is easily damaged. Both are expensive to replace.

Good luck!

I think I see where I am getting confused. It looks like the European Spec build is slightly different then the US made item.

Back to the drawing board perhaps !!

Thanks
