Dis-assemble and re-assemble dual pivot brakes
Hi there,
My pair of Tiagra brakes have became stuck and it won't open again after I have braked even slightly. I know I should have cleaned them well before it stuck completely, but hey here I am I need to clean them now. My question is I want to dis-assemble them and clean them then grease all the joints with assembly grease and put them back together. How do I do that? What special tools do I need? Thanks, Paul |
do you have a picture?
are they center our side pull? where are they sticking? at the pivots or at the cable? I have seen brakes stick because there cables siezed in the housing. most brakes should come apart with metric wrenches, or allens. |

thanks for the tips and instructions, I have now successfully disassembled the brake and try to clean the brakes.
@Peter: they are dual pivot brakes and the cables are fine, it is just so much dirty has clog up the joints in the calipers and when I squeezed the brake levers the brake closes but they won't spring back to the original position after I have release the lever. Thanks, Paul |
