very basic ? about a bottom bracket

I have a Motobecane frameset which has the fixed cup/adjustable cups installed but that's all--with the 35x1 French threading. So do I have to shop around to find compatible "French" axle, bearings, etc. or will some generic components work? I am planning to use it with two chain rings, as an around town road bike. Thanks for any advice. George

I'm no expert on French BBs, but I have to imagine regular bearing sizes will work. As for finding a spindle, I think you'll have a problem there.

You might try asking in the Classic and Vintage forum. Those guys know how to source some really unusual parts.

The spindles and balls are the same. Only the cup threading is different
