Tire Installation Tips & Tricks

Hi folks...I just got a set of new wheels for my '07 Specialized Sequoia Elite road bike - a set of Easton Vista SLs. I went out and bought some new tires - foldable kevlar Forte DC Road Tire. It turns out that the rims have a somewhat higher sidewall and thus, the tires are very, very hard to put on. I ruined one brand new tube with my front wheel and broke one of my plastic tire irons in the process of getting the tire off.

I'm concerned about changing flats somewhere out on the road now. Is there some trick I'm missing in installing these tires...perhaps an easier way? Both the rims and tires are noted as being 700x23.

Any information you have would be great!

I never say this, but in this case I will: Utilize the search function! You'll find about 10,000 pages of posts on every aspect and nuance of changing tires.

I like the method of creating slack as explained here. http://www.teamestrogen.com/articles/asa_levers.asp

I use this method and levers if needed.

Hey thanks...I'll give that a try. Also got some good tips on using talcum powder. It may be the rims sidewalls are just higher than I've ever had before! Thanks!
