Ferrule on brake housing inside Shimano STI lever?
I have a new set of 9 speed Shimano 105 STI levers and the included cables. Shimano doesn't include ferrules for the brake housing and the installation guide doesn't mention them at all even though they are helpful in places (e.g. top tube routing). It seems awkward to push brake housing into the lever with a ferrule cap installed so my thinking is that ferrules aren't needed there. Is that correct? My first time at this. Thanks.

Brake cable housing ferrules aren't needed, and indeed won't fit, inside Shimano's STI levers. The receiving "pocket" is sized for a good fit on just the housing itself.
The shift cable housing requires ferrules at the brifter end and Shimano supplies them with their cable sets.
