Captain Brown is shown as having last visited BF at 7.39 pm PST yesterday.

I will hope this is a vile rumour :( .

I hope that the rumor turns out to be false.

Me neither, but I'm really worried. Let's hope this isn't true. Sheldon, check in with us... you are the greatest bike mechanic of all time and the reason a lot of us got into cycling.

It is with heavy hearts that we convey to you the news that Sheldon Brown has passed away. Our thoughts go out to his family at this time. The cycling community has lost one of it's most passionate members.

I'm sure him and Sidney will have some very animated discussions on the long eternal ride.

His website has been such a great reference over the years. Sheldon's site encouraged me to tinker, and eventually made me decide to give wheel building a try. I certainly hope this is not true, while at the same time, I know that he was a good man, and will go wherever it is that good men go.

I did call the phone number on their web site and all I got was the voice intercept saying to e-mail orders or questions about an existing order. There was no way to talk to anyone directly. I also called their store number and got no answer and no answering machine. Are they closed on Mondays?

The Mass Bike web site says nothing about it either.

I certainly hope this is a hoax.

Not a hoax, posted everywhere. Harriet, his wife sent out an email this morning.

oh man. sheldon's site got me into fixing my own bikes and really taught me everything i know. this is very sad news.

The cycling world has lost one of its giants.

This is so ****ing sad. He was too young.

RIP Sheldon Brown. His site taught me so much, I give him credit for most of my knowledge about bicycles.

Sad to read, a great man and resource is lost.

I wish to convey my condolences to the family and friends of the late Sheldon Brown (CaptBike) I was a customer and he and his website have always been a great source of help to my cycling you will be missed by many I'm sure!!!!
