Tell me about these Ambrosio rims

I bartered some graphics work for a of wheels; they're 700mm 36-spoke Ambrosio 19 Super Elites, laced to Campy hubs with stainless spokes. They're shod with 700x20 Continental Grand Prix tires, and the rear has a seven-cog freewheel. They're way too new and too good for any of my rides; I need to either sell them or barter them for parts I can use. Can anyone tell me about these wheels, and what they might be worth?

It's likely an early to mid-80's wheelset with 126 spacing - it was/is a quality set-up but probably would only be of value to someone with a bike from the same era. The Campy hubs, if Record, are worth salvaging. I hesitate to guess reasonable prices for the wheelset or the hubs, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable will respond. Good luck!

mswantak,
I know this is an old post but if you still have these wheels, I'll buy them. I'm looking for Ambrosio 19 Elite or Super Elite rims. Save me the time looking for Campy "Victory" hubs to go with them. Let me know.

another bump for this post:

I have a set of these rims with the campy hubs, but don't have a use for them so I'm trying to ascertain their value. (for sale locally, I'm too busy to ship things out right now.)

Any help would be appreciated.

wow, a 3 year old OP!

Where's local? I guess $100 local sale might sell them???? If they came up local to me at that price with a 7 speed freewheel I'd go for it, but only if in great condition. I have these rims on some Shimano hubs and a Campy set would be nice.

local is WI. a freewheel is the only thing they don't have, otherwise they're in swell condition. i figured around $75 and wanted to make sure I wasn't low balling myself.

I had a pair of those on my bianchi. I owned the bianchi frame, now I use them on my surly. For being 20+ years old they are working great.

ultraman6970 has a set of tubulars - I think they came in tubular and clincher styles and yours are probably clinchers. They seem to be the 'stock' rim on many of the Italian made Bianchis sold in the 80's - at least what I see on ebay.

Hmmm, I'd try for $95, expecting a loose $10 in bargaining, especially if they are nice and straight and clean. I wish I lived down the road!

Madison, WI.

Someone was gonna toss them but first offered them to my dad who is the town 'bike guy' (small rural village) he cleaned them up, replaced the bearings and repacked the hubs. i don't recall if he said he did anything more than that before he gave them to me.

He also said that they seem big for their size, and getting tires on is a massive pain. any owners out there find that to be true?

Go to the Vintage forum. I am sure you will find some takers there. The wheel set is very good and I have seen vintage rims go for between $200 and $500 on eBay depending on the era. Good luck.

If they were from a Bianchi from the mid eighties the rims are totally worth keeping.

Ambrisio Elite 19's? OH sh*t!
I've got those on my fixie, chucked the hubs (gritty old) but rebuilt the rims on Miche's.
If you don't want them you can sell them to me

Duh. I just noticed it says that under your name. That's a bit too far for me, but good luck. They seem like nice wheels; I'm sure someone will be happy to take them off your hands for a fair price.
