Italian bottom bracket question

This is an Italian Olma Corsica (Late 80's ?) and the bottom bracket width is 70mm (making it Italian? will know more once liquid wrench has a chance to work and can remove, hoping its not french). It currently has a set of zeus cranks with the drive side pedal threads totally destroyed. I want to replace it with some older shimano 105 cranks, but as I understand things the bottom bracket spindle is most likely not JIS and so is incompatable with the shimano 105 cranks.

So the easiest solution is to go to the LBS, and buy an Italian threaded bottom bracket with a JIS spindle? They make these right?

Cranks Zeus Made in Spain 170mm (BSC) but thatís all the info written on it
Zeus Bottom bracket with 36 X 24 F printed on it

Also is there any way to save these cranks? I canít see that taping the treads would do me much good as the previous owner really obliterated them.

Yes, you have an Italian thread BB. You can get replacement Italian thread BBs with JIS spindles.

You can helicoil the existing crank thread. Do a search (helicoil, crank, pedal), you'll find lots of info.

36x24 confirms your bb has Italian threads. You can easily find JIS square taper bottom brackets with Italian threads to use with your Shimano crank.

I wouldn't put much effort into reclaiming the Zeus cranks. They may or may not have enough metal to acept a Helicoil to restore the threads but it will cost more than these mediocre cranks are worth.

Thanks for the info. Shopping I will go. I will also check on the helicoil. If I don't like what I find will put the cranks and bottom bracket up for trade as parts.
