Nexus Internal hub with Cycleops trainer?
I left my Cycelops trainer at my parent's house this winter (just been using the rollers) and my mom wondered if her Electra Townie with a 3-speed Nexus internal hub would work on the trainer.
I don't have the bike in front of me too see how exactly it looks but I remember the shifter mechanism attaches to the axle so I'm not sure if it would fit in the clamp.
Anyone know if this would work? Are there any trainers that do work with a cruiser with a Nexus hub?

Why wouldn't it work? I put up an Electra Townie 3 on a Cycleops Fluid2. That was at work and I only rode it for 2 minutes as a joke, but it attached and iirc, it shifted fine.

The shift mechanism on those hubs is held on by a simple set screw. Putting as much pressure on it as a trainer can, I wouldn't trust the connection to hold. Considering it's his Mom were talking about, and that there are other trainers available that wouldn't even use the rear axle, I wouldn't risk it.
Isn't it about time Mom learned to ride rollers anyway?

Hmmm. Good point. I'd probably fab a cup to hold that Nexus mech, but it might just not be worth it. FWIW, the Nexus mech is some pretty heavy metal and the force from the trainer would be pushing the mech into the axle.
But, as they say, better safe than a mother with a broken hip . . .

I'm not sure a Townie would even fit on rollers, the wheel base is huge. With a fork mount that point is moot. I'm using the rollers to warm up before races so I'll probably keep an eye out for some cheapies.
I was just curious if any shops throw Townies or any other internal hubbed bike on a trainer while a customer tries them out.

The shop near me has town bikes set up on their trainers for demos. But, they had the hub that has the cable come in from the bottom, instead of the end of the axle.

Again, I've done it as a quasi joke and it worked. If I remember it today, I'll put one on and give it a good once over. I'll also see if a Townie fits on my rollers.
