bar shifters, skip gears

i added thumb shifters to my aero bars (shimano 9 speed), also added new cables and housing, cut the right length, no problems, everytime i shift from the high gear (smallest cog) to the next cog, and it skips it.

i'm having a real hard time figuring it out! i can't seem to get all the gears to work right, derailleur adjusting is becoming a problem.
Can someone help me do this?

thanks

First, don't mess with the limit screws.

Now, shift into the highest gear. Disconnect the shifter cable at the derailer. Back out the tension adjuster to about halfway out (or in). Reconnect the cable with the proper amount of tension.

Check your shifting. If the chain skips the #8 cog, turn the tension knob clockwise, which is the direction you need to move the chain. Hopefully this should fine tune your shifting.

If the problem persists, check for a bent hanger or a worn derailer that has excessive side play.

you're right, the limit screws were fine, it was just the barrel adjuster.

all good now, thanks
