chainring compatibility
chainring compatibility
I just replaced the cassette, chain, and rings on my haro v4. But instead of the smooth operation of a newly installed drivetrain it sounded old and worn. The cassette is a shimano hyperglide hg70-9, the chain is a sram 951, the rings are shimano sg-x s44 and sg-x m9 s32. I am still using the original crankarm 'truvativ isoflo'. The noise is coming from the rings. Mostly when I use the three most outer cogs on the cassette(using the 44 and the 32 rings). It appears that the teeth on the rings are striking the left most inner link plate. I always thought rings were rings, so long as the bolt diameter matched the crank. thanks for any help. |
yeah rings are confusing, with the HG/ IG thing... sounds like you got the 8sp compatibles(now IG i think) when you should have got the HG9sp type. personally i just found it cheaper to buy whole LX chainset with hollowtech BB than buy rings separate!! (also no more creaking square bb ofcourse)

thanks for the info. The 44 and 32 rings cost me about $55, an original crankarm with rings is costing me $40 plus shipping. I always thought rings were rings so long as the bolt hole lined up. So what is the difference between a 8 speed and 9 speed ring?
