Having trouble with Campy Mirage 8spd shifter

1998 Campagnolo Mirage 8 speed Ergo shifter

Shifter does not seem to be cooperating. It seems to not be pulling the right amount of cable for the 1->2 change. Every shift after that is fine. It pulls very little cable just for the first shift.

I lubed the derailleur cable closest to the derailleur, lubed the derailleur pivot points and gave the shifter internal mechanism a good bath of TriFlow (this approach always seems to work for Shimano indexed shifters)

This is admittedly the first brifter I've had to deal with so I'm not too well versed on these new fangled pieces of technology (from 1998, ha, I'm still on 1978)
