Needle bearing replacements?
Hello,
Pulling apart the headset on an c. early 90s Erickson frame (poor thing has been neglected for years, tempted to turn the owner in for abuse) I found that this is an Odyssey Toro Pro which uses a concave needle bearing assembly:
Not sure if it was already missing or I accidentally dislodged it during disassembly, but one of the needle bearings has escaped.
Does anyone know how/if this can be replaced inexpensively? As I understand it, this was a rather low end headset anyway so I'd rather not have to go to too much trouble in fixing it, but I really don't want to replace the headset either, or reinstall with one of the bearings missing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks,
Karl

Looks much like the lower bearings on the FSA headset on my RANS 'bent. Haven't looked for replacement bearings for a couple of years - they were available then - online and from a bike shop (special order). Still holding up well with occ. clean/grease.

I would guess this bearing assembly conforms to industry standards. In other words, the headset manufacturer did not design and build the bearing assembly, rather they specified an off the shelf bearing. I've looked into cartridge bearings for bicycles and was successful in finding industrial equivalents, like from www.mcmaster.com. However, I've never looked into tapered roller bearings. Can you find any number or letters stamped into the housing?

Post a picture of the headset. That looks just like what came out of my Stronglight A9.
