Rear cassett noise

Clicking coming from freewheel hub....only when I am on the bike....cliiick-click once every revolution. I have narrowed it down to the hub by process of elimination.......when disassembled, hub appears, acts and sounds normal (spins freely, normal clicking etc). I imagine i will need to simply replace hub, but, as I use bike to commute, does anyone think I am risking my neck (even more than usual) by continuing to ride while new hub is being shipped in? Insurance agent and heirs really want to know....thanks!

i have two bikes with 9 speed shimano hubs and freewheels making clickity clikity noises. i can't seem to figure out how to service them and make the noise go away. they've been noisy for many miles now. i hope this isn't a dangerous condition.

Once per wheel revolution or crank revolution?
A loose spoke could click once per revolution. If the rim is an Open Pro the rim joint could click once per revolution.

Are you sure it's coming from the rear hub? I had a similar noise on an old bike that drove me mad - every pedal revolution it clicked. I finally found out it was the spare end of the front changer cable touching the right hand crank!

Might not be this, but it costs nothing to check!

The internal guts of the freewheel may be poor quality,my brand new acs single speed freewheel does that, but as I ride it it gets quieter and quiter.Oil the freewheel gear cased with motor oil.If its a casette the freehub may need to be greased.
