submerged bottom bracket
 

my bottom bracket(truvativ ISIS drive 2) was submerged in a few inches of water for at least a week. it was not in the frame at the time. what should I do to it before I reinstall it?

Buy a replacement. It is likely to die from corrosion in fairly short order.

thanks for the reply. for s#@ts and giggles, is there something I can soak it in to extend it's limited life(oil,kerosene, Tri-Flo)? Also my pedals, crank arms, chainring, and bash ring all got soaked too. They are showing a little corrosion in a few spots. What should I treat those with?

Which model of BB is it specifically? It might make a difference whether you can remove the seals or the bearings (I can't remember the details of ISIS 2 without a picture). You need to remove any moisture without damaging the bearing seals and replace it with oil (which won't stay there) and/or grease. Bearing seals can be damaged by removal and refitting, heat, water-dispersing agents or even mineral oils in some cases, depending on materials and design. I don't think it is easy to change bearings in most ISIS BBs.

Corrosion may have already started and, if so, the damage will expand as the bearing is loaded and rotated. If it is too difficult to get into the bearings (or to replace the cartridge bearings), just ride it till it dies and fit a new one. Manufacturers are doing their very best to turn bike components into non-serviceable items.

For all the grief it takes, this is the place where WD-40 is the right choice to displace water.

Once again, thank you for your quick and informative response. The only info on the drive that may help is 'BB-02-SPL-DH-113/68 shell -One Spacer', and 'BC 1.37" x24TPI'

Correct. And along with displacing the water, it will breakdown the grease.
