Rear rack problem
I was attempting to attach a rear rack on my Trek FX 7.5 and was unable to bolt it to the correct bolt holes for the rear brake was in the way. Is there a way around this or was I doing somthing incorrect.

That's a V-brake bike, right?
You might have luck finding a rack or upper rack hardware that's designed for use with V-brakes.
I've had good luck fabricating my own upper arms with a 90 degree bend from an aluminum extrusion.

If it is the rear brake doesn't look like it should be a problem but the mount/holder for the rear deurailler cable looks like it might be a bit close to the rack mount.

Cobba that is a pic of my bike. The mount on the right side fits on fine but the left side of the brake is directly in the way. I may just have to try bending the aluminum piece.

THe other option is to run a monostay adapter and bolt it to that, either the seatpost or the seattube if your fanagling doesn't work out.

Bending and modding can be par for the course with a rack. I did this in a similar situation.

I happened to do a rack install on an FX today. Use long rack struts and put about a 45° bend in them, far enough ahead of the rack that they're coming down to the frame's riv-nuts from above the brake, instead of trying to go right through it.
Secondary option: you could get a seat collar with rack mounts built into it. If you decide to get one of these, your LBS can get them from J&B Importers for you. This puts the rack mounts up high enough that you won't have clearance problems with the brakes. You still might need long extenders to reach the mounts and still have the rack sit back far enough to keep your bags away from your heels.

Oh yeah. I may try that when - or if - it breaks. I figure 99% of the load is solidly supported by the rack stays to the eyelets and the bracket just needs to stabilize a small amount of rotational force, even with the panniers. Plus, I had all this hardware already at home!
