Question about crankset/arm...
I got a 26" Huffy Stalker LX(frame is 21")18 spd mtn bike that was given to me. I tried to replace the pedals on the crankarm but the screws is stripped and one pedal is bent pretty good in the crankarm and to me it's beyond fixable.
Can I replace just the crank arm, or do I need to replace the whole crankset? If the whole set, how do I know what size I need to get for this bike? Also the gear shift is shot as it will not shift, so I want to have that replace or is there around it to fix the shifts? Any tips for these questions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |
Can't easily google up a pix of the bike, but I tend to agree with the poster
on your other forum where you posted the same question. With two major systems malfunctioning on a Walmart grade bike, it is scrap metal. Even if you could find parts, likely you could get a new bike from WallyWorld for the same price or less when you throw in R&R costs. Look around for a less trashed junker. If there is a big college/university around they may have a few dozen leftovers abandoned on campus in the lost and found. The shift problem may be trivial or equally fundamental to your stripped crank problem. In the absence of expert opinion try something else and leave this one on the curb somewhere. |

Well that's is the way it is. $50-75 bike with trashed pedals and cranks
and uncertain functionality in the shifters. Owner with no tools and no knowledge. No idea if cranks/BB are 'standard' or special ultra lowgrade Chinese junk. Pedals may or may not have special thread otherwise known as half inch. Sure it is fixable. Is it worth while? I suggest no. I also threw away my Commodore 64 and am about to junk 4 TV sets and gave away a chain saw with no compression. I have recycled a Teledyne Titan into a quite functional bike and ditto a PX10. I did have to throw away a Simplex derailler set and the Mafac brakes. Whoopee. |
