Campy Question

I have just purchased a lovely 1977 Campy Nuovo Recornt front and rear mech set.
Quick question what am I looking at for cassette 8 or 9 speed or something else?
And should I be looking for a compatible chainset of any type as well?
Any help much appreciated

A 5 or 6 speed freewheeel. Hope you got some friction shifters to go with them.Yeah, a period chain would be nice too.

Yeah e-bayed some friction shifters today - thanks for the reply. If I can't get a period chainset will modern do?

Some of the 8spd chains will work on a 6spd, not sure about 5spd.

The SRAM PC48 or PC58 should work fine with
older group. They look period correct too.
The ultimate is to score a Sedis, Regina or Everest
chain off e-bay.
I believe the Nuovo record rear will work with 7speed
freewheel (or cassette for that matter) but I don't think
it will handle the spread of an 8 speed. I know they worked with the old Suntour Ultra7 freewheels but that
required a specific thin chain (will modern 9 or 10 speed chain work here?). The real question should be will it
handle the spread of the cogs you are gonna run.
